MANIFEST

Vernaculo was born 7 years ago, as a documentation project on artisanal techniques in southern Mexico, our project has evolved and we have been able to experiment in various techniques, such as; pottery, basketry, jewelry and textiles making.

We collaborate directly with artisan families from southern Mexico (90% led by women), honoring the traditions established in their trades, with a specifically local artisan practice.

We are motivated to create socially, environmentally and economically sustainable pieces.

We understand it as our responsibility, when creating, to keep in mind the value of slow manufacturing processes.

All our textiles are manufactured with traditional and low-impact techniques, which stand the test of time. We have been working with the same group of weavers since 2016.

Handloom production is fundamental for all our production, we make editions, not collections. Our inventory is limited, meaning each piece is unique.

In terms of design, we are conservative when cutting a garment, we recover the leftovers for the creation of accessories, complements, appliqués, bags and shoes. So that waste is minimal.

We firmly believe that by exploring and nurturing existing crafts, exciting territory opens up to create and inspire future traditions.
